Accepting donation on behalf of High School student

Mayor Elsa Paz was able to secure funds (from generous sponsors) for two students to attend Isla Bonita Elementary (scholarship for one year) and also a scholarship (one year) for a High School Student. Mayor Paz also hopes to continue this trend and hopes to award scholarships to three more high school students.

Angelica Guevara Morfin representing Guatemala for Costa Maya Festival

She is no other than 22-year-old Angelica Guevara Morfin, beautiful delegate representing Guatemala at this year’s Reina de la Costa Maya Internacional. The five foot, six inch brunette is a primary school teacher, a model and a university student where she is majoring in Foreign Relations. Angelica enjoys reading and dancing in her free time.

Angelica represented her hometown of San Marcos for the 2009 Miss Guatemala. She took home the prize for best figure but shone when she was crowned Miss Guatemala World.

Miss Comunidad Salvadorena

In celebration of Salvador’s Independence, the Salvadoran Community will hold its first ever “Señorita Comunidad Salvadoreña.” A contest based on popularity has nine beautiful participants competing for the title. The event will take place on July 18th at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium. Donation boxes with individual contestant photographs have been placed around town, so drop your kind donation in and that girl just might win the title. Monies raised will be used to assist members within San Pedro Town who are in need of medical assistance. The girl who raises the most money wins. Rumba Latina!

Rumba Latina kicked off with great music from DJ's from Belize, Salvador and Guatemala. The candidates for Senorita Comunidad Salvadorena were presented to the public. Raffles were distributed throughout the night. Great prizes were won!

Everyone had an enjoyable time dancing the night away.

Basketball Court/Police Department get a facelift

The Boca del Rio Park in San Pedro Town got a nice new color on Saturday. Kudus to the Council!

The San Pedro Police Department is also in the process of receiving a nice coat of paint. Other changes are taking place inside the station. The San Pedro Sun will take you there on Monday afternoon.

Police investigate death in San Pedrito

Police are investigating the death of a man who has been identified as Alejandro Uck (right). Uck believed to be in his early 20's was originally from Succotz Village in the Cayo District.

According to Sergeant Paulino Reyes of the San Pedro Police Department at approximately 1:00 a.m., police received information on a huge brawl in the San Pedrito Area of San Pedro Town. When police arrived at the scene, they found a motionless Uck lying on the ground. He was observed with a small gash wound to his mouth and no other injuries to his body. Initial investigations suggest that Uck was beaten to death. He was picked up off the ground and rushed to the San Pedro PolyClinic where he succumbed to his injuries at about 4:30 this morning.

Uck's body has been transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where a post mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted on Monday.

Police have arrested and charged Enrique Pena (left), 42-year-old contractor for the crime of Manslaughter.
